Twitter Spam

I’m not a huge twitter user. I like the idea, but none of inner circle friends are using it so I don’t get much milage out of it yet.
Yesterday, I had my first twitter spam follow. My guess is the person behind this has a bot pouring through twitter looking for people in Vancouver.
At my last gig, I dealt [...]

Gmail: I get other people’s email

It turns out, I’m not the only Gary Richardson using the internet. I get other people’s email. I seem to get one of these every few weeks or so. I’ve had my current gmail address since invites were going for $1,000+ on Ebay. I didn’t pay for mine; I got lucky and had a friend [...]

Finally, Static IP’s in EC2

I was very happy when I opened my email this morning. Amazon has announced Elastic IPs and Availability Zones. It’s time to update your EC2 tools!

iPhone in Canada

I’m getting tired of my Blackberry. I don’t have data on it right now (it’s way to pricy here). It also keeps putting itself in ‘SOS Mode’ which means I can’t send or receive calls. I can’t get it out of this mode — I need to pull out the battery and wait for it [...]

Shaw Cable Increasing Rates

I got my electronic bill from Shaw Cable today. I noticed that there was an extra page — on the extra page was the following:
Effective April 1, 2008, the monthly rate for your services will be adjusted to $100.94,plus taxes.
Shaw is committed to providing you with the best programming and serviceavailable. To find out more about [...]

Compacting vmdk files with LVM

I have to distribute development VMware images to the developers. Since we don’t have office space at this point, we’re using cable modems to transfer the images around. This is a bit of a pain for 2GB+ images.
The image I built uses LVM. When I try to use the vmware-toolbox to compress the vmdk, the [...]
